Karamea Digital Photo Competition

Karamea Community Arts Council held photography competitions in 2010, 2011 and 2013. They were all a great success and highlighted how many talented and creative photographers we have in the community.

The first competition in 2010 was judged by two Arts Council members and a visiting artist. It was huge task with over 400 entries.

In 2011 the competition was judged by a public voting system on this Web site, relieving the judges of having to choose winning photos from all the entries. There were eight categories. This system worked very well and continued in 2013. In 2013 winners in each category received a photographic print of their winning photo as part of their prize. The Buller Camera Club were visiting Karamea soon after the competition and the prints were displayed as part of their exhibition at the Last Resort.

There have been a wide range of categories for the competition in the past including Animal, Portrait, Landscape, Karamea, Abstract, Unique, Family, Feet, Happy, Heaphy Track, Mountain Biking, Rainbows, Water, Digitally Altered and Black & White. The standard of the entries and the quality of the photography has been superb and there were very interesting and varied interpretations of the categories.
