Planting Day at Natural Burial Ground
Saturday 12th April
The last major part of our planting programme to enhance the Natural Burial Ground is happening on Saturday 12th April at 11 am. Anyone who is interested in planting a few trees is welcome to help. We will be planting kowhai and nikau mostly, on the ‘esplanade reserve’ beside the path leading up between the path to the graves and the Karamea River. Please bring your own spade.

If we have time, we will also release the weeds from around our two other planting sessions; the riparian strip beside the small creek, and the ‘Kahikatea Cathedral’ beside the car park. Both of these planting areas are doing very well, and the plants are standing out above the surroundings and looking good. Thanks to the community members who helped plant these out.

If you have any kowhai or nikau seedlings that are at least 300 mm high (one foot) and would like to donate them, please bring them along, or let us know before and we can pick them up. We have had good donations from three locals which have enabled us to save money, and to get this section underway.

Bring a spade!

We will finish our work with light refreshments which you are welcome to enjoy with us.
