Karamea Winter School’ is a month of Knowledge Sharing Workshops held in June each year. Anyone can be a Tutor and the workshops are free to attend . There are similar workshops happening throughout the world, but what makes our’s unique is that we do not outsource for  tutors, and rely on the residents of our community and those with a connection to Karamea . Neither tutors nor organisers get paid ; though some workshops will have a cost to cover any materials used.

We were awarded a  Trustpower Volunteer  Award  and our concept has been taken up in  ‘Charleston,’

In 2024, it will be 10 years since the first Winter School. We were originally under the banner of the ‘Karamea Community Arts Council’ , and our workshops were predominantly Arts and Craft based. Each year the workshops have become more diverse , and it was decided we should become independent as “Karamea Knowledge Sharing Workshops’  This will not change how Winter School is organised, and in February  next year we will send out requests for volunteer tutors for the workshops to be held in June.

There is a core group of facilitators that put all the parts together and make it happen..  If you would like to be part of this team, please contact Kathy Ramsay at karameaknowledge@gmail.com
