Monday Night at Radio Karamea!
D.J.'s Weaver D and OBe Wan have been doing a regular show at Karamea's community radio station at Rongo every Monday night at 8:00p.m.This show "normally" comprises of a theme (such as Prince or reggae)which varys each week for about an hour and then turns into a more digital electic array of dance music, usually ranging through the genres of Hip-hop,dub,drum' n' bass, trance, funk and soul.
The radio station is another musical out-let and a means of rehearsing, honing skills that we are learning ,experimenting with a mixing desk and using a range of equipment , which means being able to mix between different medians (vinyl to C.D.,tape to laptop etc) ,which you can't do at home. The cool thing about the radio station from a D.J.'s perspective is having a potential audience ,but with-out the pressure of being completey" live" like when doing a gig. Having a regular show also gives the listeners (or groupies) an idea of what is happening on the radio and when to tune in.As D.J.'s we are always trying to do the show as if we are '"performing"and try to be as professional and as "seamless" with the mixing as possible as we aspire to have a professional show. The better we are at using the gear the better the show and our skills should be.
We have a lot of fun and really enjoy having access to something that enables us to extend our skills and play our funky funky tunes to the community.
May the force B with U.
WANTED! Ideas for KSM logo:
Raramai and Debs are joining forces to design a logo for KSM and are asking for input from you and the community. If you have any ideas they would love to hear from you! Input can be anything from a rough sketch to an inspirational picture. So put your creative thinking caps on and keep an eye out in support these guys in the design process. A forum discussion will be generated on the community website so post your input there if you can.
DJ Workshop Saturday 4th December:
Keep this date free!
This is the beginning of 'Karamea Sound Machines: Session of Workshops'!
During the day workshops will be run on:
Followed by a night of music and dance where the participants in the workshop get a change to present their new skills and Flow In shares her music with us (hopefully in surround sound!)
Details are yet to be finalised however by the weekend we should have it all sorted and posters will be everywhere! So tell everyone especially those who have shown interest in becoming a DJ – this is not an oppurtunity to be missed.
Drive-in Movie Review:
Firstly, Big love goes out to those who helped to make this happen: Pete for help with the poster (this should be enough to get an invite to the volunteers brunch brother!) and taking care of the visuals, Stu, Kaia, Laban, Tjalva and Dave R. for collecting wood for the fire, Brett for helping with structures, Guppy for services to the sanitation department, James for the use of his generator and Natalia, Shona, Katie, Debs and others for pitching in!
While the weather was marginal we had a great turn out. All reports have been positive and the event raised enough money to cover costs. I am unsure whether we will do the bonfire and music on the beach after the movie again as I felt people found the transition difficult (would be a good event in and of itself!) but we will definitely do it again – perhaps down Karamea way next time...
Fundraising this weekend:
KSM will be running coffee and a sausage sizzle at the Jersey Breeders Show this weekend. If you have a spare hour or two come lend a hand. Also we would love donations of baked goods as these always go down well. Remember funds raised are going towards building the sound system...
Well that is it for this week. Remember all feedback is welcome just click REPLY TO ALL in your mail server so everyone receives your contribution. Till next time.
