I’ve spoken to a lot of people about a community website. Everyone I’ve shared it with has expressed enthusiasm. Yes, we already have a terrific website for tourism and holiday visitors to our region. We’ve had discussions with the Information & Resource Centre and have taken their advice to design a separate website. However, this new website initiative would be a complementary website, a Karamea Community web-site to service and inform Karameans living here as well as for others living outside the district. Many communities around New Zealand, Australia and the world have such websites. It is becoming a common, useful, beneficial service to rate-payers and residents.

The Karamea Community web-site would have local lifestyle information relevant to all Karamea ratepayers.   Some information headings being considered include:
-Community Description & History         -Groups, Clubs & Organisations Directory
-At a Glance (photos of community)         -Services & Businesses Directory
-Lifestyle Items                 -Community Projects and Initiatives
-Community Facilities & Activities         -Web-Links to:Info Centre site
-Civil Defence Information                     BDC site
-Public Transportation Options                 DWC site
-Census Information                         Fund-raising sites
-Calendar of Events                         KAS site
-Local Government                         Local Business sites

Community website guidelines are also being drafted so that provided information is helpful and accurate to community use and needs, that the privacy of individuals and groups are respected and that there is no material deemed inappropriate to social norms.

A community based website for the Karamea area is under development. A small working group has been established to develop the website. They will be asking the community for ideas, suggestions and feedback in the near future. In the meantime feel free to contact me with any questions. Here’s one of many community websites you can visit as an example:   www.cunderdin.wa.gov.au
