What is it?
The Karamea Cemetery Trust manages the operation of the Karamea Cemetery. There are a number of local trustees who oversee the Burial Register, sale of plots, preparation before and after a funeral, and general maintenance for the appearance of the cemetery. The land is vested in the Buller District Council as a Cemetery Reserve. Our accounts are required to be audited every year by Audit NZ.
Who are we?
The trustees are Dick Straight (Chair), Hamish Macbeth (Secretary), Jo Bateman (Treasurer), Sheryl Rhind, Steve Schulz, Phil Higgs, Jamie McGrath
We hold our AGM in October or November and everyone is invited. We have one or two meetings a year and a working bee just before Christmas. Otherwise we are ‘on call’ as required to attend to funerals.
If you want to know how much it costs to buy a plot at the Karamea Cemetery or for burial fees, please contact one of the trustees. Our costs are extremely reasonable compared with city prices, and we pride ourselves on a well kept cemetery.
Site plan and burial register:
A cemetery site plan of all plots and interments is available on site in the shed as well as being available online at the Buller District Council website. You can see names of all interments by following this link:
