The Karamea Cemetery Trust administers the Karamea Cemetery for the residents of Karamea on behalf of the Buller District Council. We are self funding. We oversee plot allocations, interact with funeral directors and engage contractors as necessary for digging of plots or other maintenance. WestReef staff do a particularly good job of keeping the grounds very tidy.
The Buller District Council came up recently, and we showed the Mayor and two new councillors (Martin Hill and Jamie Cleine) what we do, and discussed issues about the cemetery. We are keen to get a better understanding of our relationship with the council, and also to be identifying an area of land into the future as the existing land becomes full.
We held a working bee recently to spruce up the grounds before summer visitors, and took the opportunity to show two new trustees the ropes. Steve Schulz and Phil Higgs have generously offered their services. They join Dick Straight, Harold Simpson, Sheryl Rhind, Dulcie McNabb, and Margaret and Hamish Macbeth.
